Aikido Conversations: in Drawings and Words is an artists book of 46 loose pages, published in 1998 in a limited edition of 100, signed and numbered. The box size is 12" x 16" x 3/4". There are 19 drawings including two triptychs printed in black ink. The pages were produced by offset printing at Volt Publications in Anaheim, California, with drawings on Somerset 100% cotton rag paper. The texts are on alternating pages of 100% cotton vellum and Strathmore 100% cotton, and are printed in four colors: wine red, dark blue, pale green, and grey on the vellum overlays.
The box is hand-assembled with handmade Umbra Marine paper from Thailand
with a Japanese handmade patterned paper lining. Each box has individually
selected bone closures. The typeface for text is Adobe Sanvito. The typeface
for the introduction, artists page and colophon is Adobe Stone Sans. Photographs
for the artists page are by Phel Steinmetz. Leslie Richards was production
assistant. Pat Luft supervised the printing process and Susan McFetridge
constructed the boxes.
