The purpose of Aikido Online's Discussion Groups is to promote communication and reflection on issues of importance within the Aikido community. This can be a means to gain insight and understanding of these issues and Aikido in general by drawing on the collective knowledge of the larger Aikido community.

We hope that ongoing discussions will continue on a variety of topics. Some topics will be introduced by the magazine and some will emerge from the content of the discussions themselves. For these reasons we ask for the participation of both teachers and students so that issues may be explored from a broad perspective.

This is a moderated discussion, not a typical "chat room". All submissions are reviewed by a moderator and are subject to editing before being posted. In order that the discussion not degenerate into a forum for pontificating and bickering, please follow these basic guidelines when submitting your thoughts.

  • Proper etiquette is an important part of Aikido. Please present your views in a tactful and respectful manner.
  • Direct quotes and factual claims must be supported by specific references.
  • Please stay on the subject with responses that add value to the discussion at hand. If you want to suggest other issues, please clearly identify your message as such and it will be considered for an additional discussion group.

  • We encourage you to submit your comments and views. The success of the discussion groups and the knowledge we can gain from them depends on your participation.

Be aware that our moderators may not be able to publish every submission, but will try to include as many as possible. We will not print all comments, for example, if several people make the same point, and we will try to publish the comments that move the discussion forward most effectively.

As this section grows, we will have many topics listed here that will have been addressed. We'll keep the responses on file so that each topic has the proper time to run it's own course.

There is a sure way to not miss any topic of interest to you: simply join our email registry. We'll notify you of updated or new topics as they happen. To subscribe (or unsubscribe), please send us your name and e-mail address in the form below:
